MARQUES DE ALELLA

MARQUES DE ALELLA

15 kilometres north of Barcelona, the D.O. Alella is one of Spain's smallest denominations of origin. This is the still side of Parxet (top Cava producer) whose pride and joy is their Marqués de Alella Clásico, which is made entirely from the local Pansa Blanca (Xarel-lo) variety.

José María Pujol Busquets, who pioneered this lushly flavoured and not so dry white back in 1981 – worth noting that this was Spain’s first steel-fermented white - has now sadly moved on, but his very able replacement is the young, switched on Xavier Carbonell who obviously learnt much from him.
